Obituary

Barbara Loos née Crawley

Dec 31, 1945, to Dec 12, 2021

Barbara was born December 31, 1945, in Inman, South Carolina to Frances and RC Crawley.  All her life, her warm and outgoing, ever smiling personality always made people feel at ease with her, and she loved to have friendly conversation with just about anyone.

From a young age, Barbara always yearned to see the world and experience new things.  This desire would push her to enlist in the Army and then travel first around the United States, and then the world, as she raised a family and pursued her passions and interests.  For Barbara there was always a new place to visit, a new business endeavor to try out, a new dream to pursue.  She loved art and being creative.  She particularly loved ceramics and painting.  She also had a great entrepreneurial spirit and loved to create new businesses and try different things.  In her later years, she turned her attention to writing and published several books.

In the mid-1980s, after the death of her mother, Barbara was contacted in the door-to-door ministry by Jehovah’s Witnesses and was touched by the resurrection hope.  After studying the Bible, she dedicated her life to Jehovah in 1985.

One thing that Barbara especially appreciated was the international brotherhood of Jehovah’s Witnesses.  Wherever her travels lead her to call home, she always knew she could find loving brothers and sisters.  In all, she served in congregations spanning four continents, including both the east and west coasts of the United States.  Whether she was in the high-rise metropolis of Hong Kong, in a small town in Ukraine, in the mountains of Austria, or serving under difficult conditions in Egypt, there were always smiling faces and warm welcomes from her brothers and sisters.

Barbara also loved animals and nature.  Whether it be spending time with her beloved canine companions, or experiencing the exotic wildlife during her many travels, she found great joy in Jehovah’s creation.  She longed to see the earth restored to the paradise promised in the Bible.

In her last year of life, she moved to Massachusetts to be closer to her son, Alex, and she spent an active and peaceful time there until her death on December 12, 2021.  She is survived by her sons, Alex and Nathan; her brothers, Mike and Ken; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
